Jill Harley, Program Director

Jill Harley, Program Director

Jill joined Conservation Legacy in January 2017 as Program Director.  After graduating with a BA in Environmental Studies, she started her non-profit career working on songbird monitoring projects for four years with the Point Reyes Bird Observatory (now Point Blue) in California. Between field seasons, she filled her time working on various projects with the Forest Service in Washington, as well as caretaking at a remote lodge in southeast Alaska.

Eventually looking to live in one place for longer than six months, she started working for the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory (GGRO) near San Francisco. She spent ten years as operations manager for the GGRO, a program of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy that monitors the hawk migration near San Francisco. She was the point person for the program and helped manage over 300 very active National Park Service volunteers and seasonal interns, assisted with field studies, and supported every aspect of the program. She enjoyed working in the Marin Headlands and looking out at the ocean daily, but was drawn to the mountains of Colorado with her now-husband in 2014.

She spent two and a half years at Rocky Mountain Institute in Boulder, where she quickly grew into the role of program coordinator for the Business Renewables Center, a member-based platform with the goal of accelerating corporate procurement of renewable energy. While Jill was proud to support RMI’s innovative and impactful work, she found herself wanting to get back into conservation work and supporting volunteer projects.

She is excited to be working with the Stewards and their wonderful programs, and is looking forward to exploring the high country and desert regions near Durango. In her free time, Jill enjoys hiking, backpacking, birdwatching, attempting to learn Colorado plants, and seeing live music.
